My first post - 94 Chevy K1500 headlight change

Hello and welcome. This is the first post, and i'll be talking about our truck. It's a pretty solid vehicle. However changing out the headlights was not an easy task. Our truck has a four headlight system. Meaning it has two low beam bulbs, and two high beam bulbs. I was able to get to the low beams from the inside of the engine bay. The high beams were a little bit more difficult. I checked around and found out the grill needs to be removed. There's a few screws, so take your time. One is hidden in the middle of the grill. Mine were where the red dots indicate. The grill is held in place with some tabs on the bottom of the grill too, so carefully wiggle it loose. If you've got one of these trucks, I don't need to tell you the grill can become brittle.

Now you need to remove the headlight assembly. You should find 4 screws holding in the assembly. They are larger than the ones that held the grill on. Two on top, two on bottom. The assembly should come off, make sure to unplug the bulb connectors before you try to walk off with it. Now is a good time to wd40 the adjustment screws. You may also want to get a headlight lens polisher to take out minor scratches and dull haze. Removing the actual bulb is easy, just twist it and it should come out. When you replace the headlight, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TOUCH THE BULB. First of all it can explode. Second, any oils from your skin will cause the bulb to get too hot and significantly shorten it's lifespan.

Installation is reverse of the removal.

I will be posting more information on various vehicles I work on, stay tuned for more!
